Waltzing on the Wild Side

The toe-tapping triple-time of the waltz gets its own LGTBQ make-over for Pride by the Stathmere Ensemble, St John's resident string orchestra. In addition to well-known expressions of the dance music by the Strausses and other Viennese composers, the Strathmere Ensemble has unearthed queerer versions of the genre by LGBTQ composers Tchaikovsky, Brittern, Copland, and others. Rite I Evening Prayer sung to the music of plainsong. The Phos Hilaron, the psalms and canticles, with their antiphons, suffrages and collects, are sung simply and beautifully to Gregorian Chant. The service also includes a short time of silent prayer and meditation. The church is fully accessible (ADA), air-conditioned, and heated.
